Why large tile is different

  • One broken 24×24 tile = many square feet lost — buy extra
  • Lippage risk without leveling clips and very flat substrate
  • Heavier sheets — consider hiring for overhead or heavy porcelain
  • Use large-format thinset and 1/2 inch notched trowel (follow tile size chart)

Waste factor

Set waste to 18–20% in the calculator for large format or diagonal layouts. Keep two spare tiles stored flat after install.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a wet saw?

Large porcelain almost always needs a wet saw for straight cuts. Rent one for the weekend — score-and-snap fails on thick porcelain.
